Travel to Cluj-Napoca

If traveling by plane you'll fly into Cluj-Napoca International Airport (CLJ)

  • The airport is located about 20-30min from the city center

There are few options for flying in depending on your plans

  • Fly through Frankfurt or Munich using Lufthansa end to end
  • Fly through London. Spend a day or two in London, then fly with either Wizz Air or Ryanair. Traveling through the UK will require applying for an electronic visa.
  • Fly through Istanbul. If you haven't been to Turkyie yet, now's a good time. Turkish lines is a great airline
  • Fly through Amsterdam. This option is not as well connected, but it's an option
  • Fly through Bucharest. If connecting via Heathrow, you can fly to Bucharest and then Cluj with Tarom.
  • Fly through Budapest. There are trains connecting Budapest (or Vienna) to Cluj-Napoca

Visas

If traveling from outside the EU, you might need a Schengen visa if you don't have a US passport

  • Make sure your passport is valid for at least 3 months after your trip
  • Be prepared to explain the purpose of the visit
  • If you carry prescription medication, make sure you have a doctor's note explaining that you need it for your health

Romania is a part of the Schengen zone, so if you're entering through another Schengen country, you will get the Schengen stamp at the aiport

Getting around while you're there

  • Uber is available in the city
  • Buses and trams are also available (easily accessible)
  • Ride an electric scooter using the bycle lanes

For the night before the wedding and after the wedding evening, we have a block of 4 rooms reserved at the venu.

There are many hotel options in the city. We recommend the following:

There's an excellent selection of restaurants in town.

What to do

Cluj is a pretty vibrant city so check back here for the latest events.

  • Visit the city center and walk around on the cobblestone streets
  • Walk around the Central Park
  • Spend a few hours at the Botanical Garden
  • Walk around the river banks
  • Untold Festival. If arriving early in August the festival is happening betwen August 7th-10th
  • Visit Salina Turda Salt Mine. It's a 30min drive from the city center
  • Tour the bars and the restaurants!
  • Go shopping at the malls

Visiting Transylvania

Once you're done vising Cluj-Napoca, you should visit the rest of Transylvania.

Relaxation

  • Salina Turda (inhale the salts!)
  • Salt water therapy at the Baile Turda

  • Corvin Castle in Hunedoara
  • Bran Castle (aka Dracula's Castle)
  • Peles Castle
  • Pelisor Castle
  • Cantacuzino Castle (main shooting location for "Wednesday"

Old Towns

If traveling to see the various castles in Transylvania, we recommend starting with Alba-Iulia and making Brasov as the travel hub.
